## Overview

The order of the steps in a Pathway is the order your learners work through them, so getting it right matters — foundations before detail, and the assessment at the end. SuperPath gives you two ways to change that order: drag a step into place with your mouse, or use the **Arrange Steps** menu to move one step at a time. Both do the same job, so use whichever suits the change you're making.

Dragging is quickest for small tidy-ups. The **Arrange Steps** menu is easier on long Pathways, on a touchscreen, and when you need to move a step in or out of a section.

## How to reorder steps by dragging

1. In the left-hand navigation, go to **Content → Pathways** to open your Pathway library.

2. Click the Pathway whose steps you want to rearrange.

3. Hover over a step in the steps list on the left. A grip handle — a small stack of horizontal lines — appears to the left of the step.
4. Drag the step by that handle and drop it where you want it. Drop it inside a section to move it into that section, or outside one to pull it back out.

The new order saves automatically — there's no Save button to press.

> **Tip:** You can drag a whole section too. Grab it by its section header rather than by an individual step, and every step inside it moves with it.

## How to reorder steps with the Arrange Steps menu

1. Open the Pathway, then click the **Arrange Steps** button on the **Pathway Overview** card at the top of the steps list.

2. Every step now shows its own arrange icon. Click the icon on the step you want to move.
3. Choose where to send it: **Move to top**, **Move up**, **Move down** or **Move to bottom**. For a step that sits inside a section you'll also see **Move above section** and **Move below section**, which lift the step out of the section entirely.

4. Repeat for any other steps you want to move, then click **Arrange Steps** again to leave arranging mode.

Only the moves that make sense for a step are offered — you won't see **Move up** on the first step, for example.

## Things to keep in mind

* The **Arrange Steps** button only appears once a Pathway has more than one step.
* Moving a step with the **Arrange Steps** menu sets the Pathway back to **Unpublished**, so publish it again once you're happy with the order. Dragging a step with the grip handle doesn't change the Pathway's published status.
* Reordering saves as you go. There's no separate Save step, and no undo — to put a step back, move it back.
* Changes apply to the Pathway itself, so they affect anyone who starts it from now on rather than rewriting the progress of learners already part-way through.
* Arranging steps is done from the Pathway editor. Learners can't reorder the Pathways assigned to them.

## FAQs

**Where do I find my Pathways?**
Under **Content → Pathways** in the left-hand navigation.

**Do I have to save after moving a step?**
No. Each move is saved as it happens.

**Why don't I see the Arrange Steps button?**
It only shows on Pathways with more than one step, and only in the Pathway editor — not in the learner view.

**Can I move a step into a section?**
Yes. Drag it into the section, or use **Arrange Steps** and move it up or down until it lands there. To take a step out of a section, use **Move above section** or **Move below section**.

**Do I need to publish the Pathway again after rearranging?**
If you used the **Arrange Steps** menu, yes — the Pathway is set back to **Unpublished** and needs republishing. Dragging steps leaves the published status alone, but it's worth checking the status before you finish either way.

## Who can do this

**Owners**, **Admins**, **Managers**, **Content Managers** and **Instructors** can open the Pathway editor and arrange steps. **People Managers**, **Employees** and **Restricted** users cannot — they have read-only access to Pathways and can't reach the editor.
