## Overview
SuperPath lets you manage who is a Manager in two ways: per person (you set someone's Manager on their profile) or per Team (you assign one or more Managers to an entire Team). Assigning managers at the Team level means you can give **several Managers oversight of the same Team** — ideal for organisations with part-time managers, rotating shifts or shared responsibilities, such as retail, hospitality and multi-site teams.

Managing at the Team level reduces admin overhead (you set access once per Team rather than on every person's record) and keeps coverage flexible, so there's always someone available to review progress and approve learnings.

> **Tip:** Use Team-based managers when your structure changes often, or when you don't sync manager fields from your HR system.

## Who can do this
**Owners** and **Admins** can turn on the feature and add managers to a Team. Anyone you add as a Team manager must hold the **Manager**, **People Manager**, **Admin** or **Owner** role — those are the only roles that can be selected. **Content Managers**, **Instructors**, **Employees** and **Restricted** users can't be assigned as Team managers.

## How to assign multiple managers

### 1. Enable "Use Teams for Managers"
1. Go to **Settings → Features**.
2. Scroll to the **People** section.
3. Turn on **Use Teams for Managers**.
4. Save if prompted.

### 2. Check people have a manager-level role
A person only gains manager access to a Team if they hold a manager-level role.
1. Go to **People** and open the person's profile.
2. Select **Edit** and confirm their role is **Manager**, **People Manager**, **Admin** or **Owner**.
3. Save.

> **Note:** If the person doesn't hold one of these roles, they won't see manager views even if they're added to a Team as a manager.

### 3. Add managers to a Team
1. Go to **Settings → Teams** and select the Team you want to configure.
2. Select **Edit Team**.
3. Set the **Primary manager**.
4. Add anyone else under **Additional Managers**.
5. Save.

> **Good to know:** You must set a Primary manager before the Additional Managers field becomes available. There's no hard limit on how many managers you can add — include as many as your Team structure requires.

## What team managers can do
Once added as a manager of a Team (and holding a manager-level role), a person can, for that Team:
* View everyone in the Team (their learners).
* Review progress and learning history.
* Assign learnings to their Team.
* Approve learnings that require manager sign-off.
* Access manager dashboards and reports.

## Things to keep in mind
* **Retail and hospitality:** several shift supervisors can share oversight of a store, venue or region.
* **Project-based teams:** temporary team leads get manager access for the duration of the project.
* **Part-time coverage:** two part-time managers can jointly cover a full-time team.
* **Multi-site ops:** regional managers can oversee multiple Teams with consistent permissions.
* If your organisation syncs from an HR system, decide whether Team-based managers should complement or replace the manager data coming from that system.
* On partner or white-label accounts, the **Use Teams for Managers** setting may be hidden — contact your SuperPath partner if you don't see it.

## Choosing the right approach
| Scenario | Recommended approach |
| ---- |
| Stable hierarchy, synced from HR | Per-person manager on the User's record |
| Frequent roster/shift changes | Team-based managers |
| Mixed (some synced, some manual) | Use HR sync for defaults, then add Team-based managers for coverage |

## Troubleshooting
**A manager can't see the Team**
* Confirm they're listed as the Primary manager or under Additional Managers on the Team.
* Check the person holds the Manager, People Manager, Admin or Owner role.
* Ask them to sign out and back in to refresh their permissions.

**I can't add someone as a manager**
* Ensure the person exists and is active.
* Confirm they hold the Manager, People Manager, Admin or Owner role — other roles can't be selected as a manager.
* Confirm you have permission to edit Teams (Owners and Admins).

**Approvals aren't showing**
* Check that the manager is viewing the correct Team.
* Confirm the learner's activity actually requires manager approval.
* Review the settings for that learning item.
