## Overview

Employment Hero is changing the way apps sign in to their API. From **14 September 2026** the older sign-in method is switched off, so every SuperPath customer using Employment Hero needs to reconnect their integration before that date. If you don't, your people and learning data will stop syncing until you do.

Reconnecting takes about ten minutes, and most of that is a one-off job in Employment Hero rather than in SuperPath. While you're reconnecting you can also turn on **two-way sync** — a new option that writes completed training from SuperPath back onto the employee's record in Employment Hero, so your compliance reporting lives in one place.

> **Note:** You need to create a **new** app in Employment Hero rather than editing your existing one. Employment Hero doesn't allow scopes (permissions) to be added to an app after it's been created, and the new sign-in method needs different scopes.

Setting up Employment Hero for the first time rather than reconnecting? Start with [How to Connect and Configure Employment Hero](https://help.superpath.io/en/article/how-to-connect-and-configure-employment-hero-b0qawc/) instead.

## Before you start

You'll need:

* Access to the **Developer Portal** in Employment Hero — this normally requires an Employment Hero admin.
* The **Owner** or **Admin** role in SuperPath.
* Your Employment Hero company name, which you can find at **https://secure.employmenthero.com/account**.

You can complete Step 1 at any time, even before you're ready to reconnect. We'd recommend doing it early — it's the part that may need your IT team, and it means the reconnect itself is a two-minute job.

## Step 1: Create a new app in Employment Hero

1. In Employment Hero, click your avatar in the top right corner and select **Developer Portal**.
2. Click **Add Application**.
3. Enter **SuperPath** as the name.
4. Set the **Redirect URL** for your SuperPath region — use **https://app.superpath.io/auth/employment-hero** for the US region, or **https://app-au.superpath.io/auth/employment-hero** for the AU region.
5. Select the scopes listed below.
6. Click **Save**, then copy the **Client ID** and **Client Secret** somewhere safe — you'll need them in Step 2.

**Scopes to select:**

* certifications:list
* certifications:show
* employees_certifications:list
* employee_custom_fields:list
* employees:list
* employees:show
* teams:list
* teams:employees:list
* organisations:list
* organisations:show

**Plus these four Certification bundles, which are new.** They let SuperPath write completed training back to Employment Hero. Employment Hero groups these in the scope picker as bundles rather than individual permissions, so you'll see them named exactly like this:

* **Certification - Read** — required. As well as reading your existing certifications, this bundle carries the permission SuperPath needs to confirm a write has finished. Leave it out and writes will start but never complete.
* **Certification - Create** — required. Lets SuperPath create the certification that a piece of learning is recorded against.
* **Certification - Update** — required. Lets SuperPath assign the employee and mark their record complete.
* **Certification - Delete** — select it anyway. SuperPath doesn't use it today, but scopes can't be added later.

> **Tip:** Select all four Certification bundles even if you don't plan to use two-way sync straight away. Because Employment Hero won't let you add scopes later, choosing them now saves you creating another app if you change your mind.

Your existing webhook keeps working with the new app — webhooks are configured separately from your app in Employment Hero — but there is one event to add to it while you're here.

In Employment Hero, go to **Developer Portal → Webhooks**, open your SuperPath webhook, and tick **employee_offboarding** alongside the events already selected. This is the only event Employment Hero sends when someone leaves, and with it selected SuperPath disables their account as soon as Employment Hero records the termination date. Without it, a departing employee keeps their SuperPath login until an admin runs **Trigger Full Sync**.

While you're on that page, copy the webhook's **signing secret** too. You can paste it into SuperPath in the next step, and SuperPath will use it to confirm that incoming webhooks genuinely came from Employment Hero. It's optional — your webhook works without it — but we'd recommend adding it.

## Step 2: Reconnect SuperPath

1. In SuperPath, go to **Settings → Integrations**.
2. Select **Employment Hero** and open **Manage**. Under **Additional actions** you'll see a **Reconnect** button.
3. Click **Reconnect**.
4. Enter the **Client ID** and **Client Secret** from the app you created in Step 1. If you copied the webhook signing secret, paste it into **Webhook Secret** as well.
5. Click **Connect Employment Hero**.
6. Follow the prompts in Employment Hero to authorise the application.

Once you're returned to SuperPath your integration is up to date. Your people and teams keep syncing exactly as before, and your learners won't notice anything. The **Reconnect** button stays where it is, so you can run this again whenever you need to.

## Step 3: Turn on two-way sync (optional)

Two-way sync writes completed training from SuperPath onto the employee's record in Employment Hero, where it appears under their **Certifications**. You'll find three options on the Employment Hero integration in SuperPath:

* **Sync learning pathways** — writes a record when someone completes a Pathway. It appears in Employment Hero as a certification of type **Training**.
* **Sync learning assignments** — writes a record when someone completes an assigned piece of Content, an Event or a Form, including individual steps within a Pathway. Also type **Training**.
* **Sync certificates** — writes a record when someone earns a Certificate. It appears as type **Qualification**, and carries the Certificate's expiry date where it has one.

Switch on whichever you'd like and click **Save**. All three are off by default, so nothing is written to Employment Hero until you choose it.

> **Good to know:** Most organisations use either **Sync learning pathways** or **Sync learning assignments**, not both. Pathway sync gives you one record per completed Pathway; assignment sync gives you a record for each individual piece of learning. Turning on both means the same training appears twice in Employment Hero.

Only learning that's marked to sync will be written across. You control this on each item using the **Sync with HRIS** option — see [How to Sync a Pathway With Your HRIS](https://help.superpath.io/en/article/how-to-sync-a-pathway-with-your-hris-fs4qpo/) and [How to Sync Content With an HRIS](https://help.superpath.io/en/article/how-to-sync-content-with-an-hris-1roxgm1/).

> **Note:** Learning with a pass mark only syncs when the person actually passed. A failed quiz, scored course or Form isn't written to Employment Hero, and neither is a Pathway whose scored step wasn't passed — so a record in Employment Hero always means the person met the pass mark, not just that they reached the end.

## Bringing across past completions with Learning Resync

Turning a toggle on only affects completions from that point forward. **Learning Resync** brings across everything that was already completed before you switched it on — or anything that failed to sync at the time.

You'll find it under **Additional actions** on the Employment Hero integration, alongside **Sync Teams** and **Trigger Full Sync** — visible in the screenshot above. Click it once and it runs in the background.

**What it covers.** Learning Resync sweeps every person in your account and pushes anything completed that hasn't reached Employment Hero yet — completed Pathways, completed assignments and Pathway steps, and held Certificates. It respects exactly the same rules as the live sync: only the toggles you've switched on, only items with **Sync with HRIS** enabled, and only learning where the person met any pass mark.

**It's safe to run more than once.** SuperPath records the Employment Hero record it created against each completion, and Learning Resync skips anything already recorded. Running it twice won't duplicate anything, so if you're unsure whether it finished cleanly, just run it again.

**It can take a while.** Every item is several calls to Employment Hero, and Employment Hero caps how fast we may send them. A large account with a lot of history can take some time to work through, so start it and let it run rather than waiting on the screen. The **Integration Logs** show progress and any failures as it goes.

> **Tip:** Turn on the toggles you want, then run **Learning Resync** once. That gets your history and your ongoing completions into Employment Hero in one pass.

**Resyncing one person instead.** Learning Resync always covers everyone. To pull a single person's details from Employment Hero into SuperPath — their name, team or manager, rather than their learning — use the per-person action described in [How to Resync Users with HRIS Integration](https://help.superpath.io/en/article/how-to-resync-users-with-hris-integration-foundu-hibob-employmenthero-xrao2e/).

## Things to keep in mind

* Only completions that happen **after** you turn a toggle on are written across automatically. Use **Learning Resync** to bring across everything completed before that.
* SuperPath creates a matching certification in Employment Hero the first time a piece of learning is completed, then records each person's completion against it. If you rename the learning in SuperPath, a new certification is created rather than the existing one being renamed.
* A completed record shows in Employment Hero with the status **Active** and the date the person finished in SuperPath.
* **Two-way sync only ever adds to Employment Hero — it never takes anything away.** If you delete a Pathway or Certificate in SuperPath, or a person's completion is removed, the record already written to Employment Hero stays on their profile. Employment Hero has no way for us to withdraw one person's completed certification; the only thing that removes it is deleting the whole certification in Employment Hero, which would remove it from everyone assigned. If you need a record taken off one person, do it in Employment Hero directly.
* Learners are matched to their Employment Hero employee record, so someone who was never synced from Employment Hero has nowhere to write to. Their completions show as failures in the **Integration Logs** rather than being written. Running **Trigger Full Sync** first, so everyone is matched up, avoids this.
* You can check exactly what's been sent, and any failures, in the **Integration Logs** — see [Integration Logs: Monitor and Troubleshoot Your Integrations](https://help.superpath.io/en/article/integration-logs-monitor-and-troubleshoot-your-integrations-1jva0bk/).

## Troubleshooting

**"Your Employment Hero connection couldn't be completed" when you reconnect**
Most often this is a Redirect URL mismatch. Check that the Redirect URL on your Employment Hero app exactly matches your SuperPath region — **https://app.superpath.io/auth/employment-hero** for the US region or **https://app-au.superpath.io/auth/employment-hero** for the AU region — with no trailing slash.

**The sign-in link has already been used, or has expired**
For security, the link that takes you to Employment Hero can only be used once and is valid for a short time. If you go back in your browser, refresh the page, or leave it too long, you'll see this. Start again from **Settings → Integrations → Employment Hero → Reconnect**.

**You selected the wrong scopes**
Employment Hero doesn't allow scopes to be changed after an app is created, so you'll need to create another new app with the correct scopes and reconnect using its Client ID and Secret. The app with the wrong scopes can be deleted.

The usual sign is that people and teams sync normally but completed training never arrives, with permission errors against Employment Hero in the **Integration Logs**. Check your app has all four Certification bundles — missing **Certification - Read** is the easiest one to overlook, because it sounds like it's only about reading.

**Completed training isn't appearing in Employment Hero**
Check that the relevant toggle is switched on, that the individual Pathway or Content item has **Sync with HRIS** enabled, and that the person has completed it since you turned the toggle on. If all three are true, look in the **Integration Logs** for a failure against that person.

## FAQs

**What happens if I don't reconnect before 14 September 2026?**
Your Employment Hero sync will stop — new starters won't be created in SuperPath, and changes in Employment Hero won't come across. Nothing is lost, and reconnecting at any point restores the sync, but any changes made in Employment Hero while it was disconnected will need a **Trigger Full Sync** to catch up.

**Do I need to set up my webhooks again?**
No — webhooks are configured separately from your app in Employment Hero, so your existing ones continue to work. There is one event to add to them though: tick **employee_offboarding** so SuperPath disables an account when Employment Hero records a termination. See Step 1.

**Can I just add the new scopes to my existing app?**
No. Employment Hero fixes an app's scopes when it's created and doesn't allow them to be changed afterwards, which is why a new app is needed.

**Do I have to turn on two-way sync?**
No, it's completely optional. Reconnecting is the only thing you must do before 14 September. The three sync options are off by default and you can turn them on whenever you like.

**Will my learners notice anything?**
No. Reconnecting doesn't affect learner accounts, logins or progress.

**Where does completed training appear in Employment Hero?**
On the employee's record, under their **Certifications**, with the status **Active** and the completion date SuperPath recorded. Completed Pathways, courses and steps appear as type **Training**; Certificates appear as type **Qualification** and carry their expiry date where they have one.

**Does failed learning get sent to Employment Hero?**
No. If a course, quiz or Form has a pass mark and the person didn't reach it, nothing is written — and a Pathway containing a scored step they didn't pass isn't written either. A record in Employment Hero always means they passed.

**Can I undo a record that shouldn't have been sent?**
Not from SuperPath. Employment Hero doesn't let us remove one person's completed certification, so you'd need to remove it in Employment Hero directly.

**Can I resync just one person's learning?**
No — **Learning Resync** always covers everyone, though it skips anything already sent, so running it is safe regardless.

## Who can do this

**Owners** and **Admins** can reconnect and configure the Employment Hero integration. **Managers**, **People Managers**, **Content Managers**, **Instructors**, **Employees** and **Restricted** users cannot — the **Integrations** tab isn't shown to them. If your SuperPath account is managed by a partner, integration settings may also be turned off at the partner level, in which case the tab won't appear for Owners and Admins either.
