## Overview
Every quick report has an analytics view that turns the learner list into charts, so you can see how one learning item is going without exporting anything. It answers four questions at a glance: where people stand right now, how long it takes them to finish, which steps they get stuck on, and whether completions are keeping pace with new assignments.

The analytics view is available on quick reports opened from **Pathways**, **Events**, **Forms & Quizzes** and **Library** content. Pathways get every card, including the step completion map. Events, Forms and content get every card except the step map, because they have no steps.

> **Note:** Quick reports opened from **Roadmaps** and from **Reports → Learnings** still show the earlier analytics layout, so the cards described here don't appear there.

## How to open the analytics view
1. Open a quick report for the item. For example, go to **Pathways**, find the Pathway and click the **View learners** icon (the bar-chart icon) in its row. See *How to Open a Quick Report for a Learning Item* for every area.
2. In the panel that opens, click **View analytics** (the line-chart icon) at the top right.
3. To go back to the learner list, click **View table**.

The header above the charts shows the item's average progress across everyone in the report, labelled **avg progress**, and the number of learners. Tick **Include disabled users** to add disabled people to every card at once.

Every card has an **i** icon next to its title. Hover over it to see exactly how that number is worked out.

## The summary tiles
Four tiles sit across the top of the view.

* **In progress:** people who have started but not finished. This includes anyone awaiting approval, approved, or declined and sent back.
* **Overdue:** records whose due date has passed and which aren't completed, counted at the start of today in your account's timezone. It's the same figure as the **Overdue** tab in the table view.
* **Completed:** records with a completed status.
* **Completion time:** the average time from when a person started to when they finished. The median sits underneath it. If some completions have no start date, a line such as "91 of 96 completions have timing" tells you how many the average is based on.

Each tile also shows its share of the total. On a Pathway that's a share of learners. On an Event, Form or content item it's a share of records, because the same item can reach someone directly and through a Pathway.

> **Tip:** Read the average and the median together. When the average is much higher than the median, a few people who took a long time are pulling the average up, and most people finish closer to the median. The completion time chart below shows you who they are.

## Status distribution
One bar splits every record into **Completed** (green), **In progress** (blue) and **Not started** (grey), with the count and percentage of each underneath. The three parts always add up to the total.

**Overdue** sits in a separate box beside the bar rather than inside it, because an overdue record is also either not started or in progress. Showing it as its own slice would count those people twice.

On an Event, Form or content item, the line under the bar also splits the records into those assigned directly and those reached through a Pathway, for example "312 records · 205 assigned directly · 107 via pathways".

## Step completion map
*Pathways only.* The step completion map lists every step in the Pathway in order, grouped under its sections, with a bar showing how many people have completed that step, are working on it, or haven't started it. Hover over a bar to see the exact counts.

Each row also shows:

* **The step type**, such as Content, Form, Event, Text, Knowledge or Pathway.
* **Optional**, when the step isn't required to finish the Pathway. A low completion rate there is expected.
* **The median time on the step**, on the right. This is how long people who finished the step spent on it, from the first time they opened it to when they completed it. It only appears once at least three people have finished the step with timing. Events never show a time, because they complete on attendance.
* **Drop-off**, on the first step where fewer than half of people have completed, as long as the steps before it are at least half complete. If the very first step is already below half, there's no marker, because that usually means people were assigned recently. It only appears on Pathways with five or more learners.

The step counts are live. The median times are refreshed about every ten minutes, and the line under the map shows when they were last worked out, for example "Timing as of 10:42".

### How to read the step map
* **Look for the step where the bars change.** A Pathway where most bars are green until one step, and grey after it, has a blocker at that step. Open the step to check whether it's too long, unclear, or waiting on something outside SuperPath.
* **Compare median times.** A step with a much longer median than its neighbours is where people spend their time. That's often the right place to split a step or add guidance.
* **Allow for recent assignments.** Later steps always look less complete when people have only just been assigned, because they haven't had time to reach them. The **Drop-off** marker is a prompt to look, not a verdict.
* **Steps added later have fewer people.** If you added a step after some people were already assigned, its bar covers only the people who have it. Hover over the bar to see the number. Steps you've removed from the Pathway aren't shown.

## Completion time chart
The **Completion time** chart, below the step map, shows one dot for every completed record. Each dot sits at the date the person completed and at how long they took, from start to finish. Hover over a dot to see who it is, when they started and finished, and how long it took. On an Event, Form or content item, dots that came through a Pathway also name that Pathway.

![](https://storage.googleapis.com/superpath-help-centre/how-to-use-quick-report-analytics/04-completion-time-chart_3588035d.png)

The chart has:

* **A solid line for the average** and **a dashed line for the median**.
* **A shaded band**, the typical range, covering two standard deviations either side of the average.
* **Outliers**, drawn as larger hollow rings, for anyone outside the typical range.

The line above the chart tells you how many completions have timing and how many outliers there are. With fewer than five timed completions there's no band and no outliers yet, because there isn't enough data to say what's typical.

When an item has more than 1,000 timed completions, the chart draws a sample of 1,000 dots so it stays readable, keeping every outlier where they fit. A note under the chart says when this is happening. The average, the median, the outliers and the copied data always use every completion.

### How to read the completion time chart
* **Outliers above the band** are people who took much longer than most. They may have been stuck, on leave, or assigned before the item was ready. Hover over them to find out who they are, then use the table view to follow up.
* **Outliers near the bottom** finished much faster than most. Check whether they genuinely worked through the item, or whether the record was marked complete for them.
* **Watch the trend from left to right.** If the dots drift upwards over time, recent learners are taking longer than earlier ones.

## Assigned vs Completed
This line chart shows how many records were assigned and how many were completed in each period since the item was first assigned. It counts by day for items up to a month old, by week up to about four months, and by month after that. Periods with nothing assigned or completed show as zero, so a gap in activity is visible.

![](https://storage.googleapis.com/superpath-help-centre/how-to-use-quick-report-analytics/05-assigned-vs-completed_8c8b83db.png)

The line above the chart shows the date range, the totals for each line, and a reminder that the latest period is still in progress.

### How to read Assigned vs Completed
* **Assigning is admin activity.** A spike in the assigned line usually means a bulk assignment or a new team, not a change in learner behaviour. Read it as context for the completed line.
* **Look at the gap between the lines.** If assignments keep running ahead of completions, the backlog of unfinished learning is growing.
* **Look for the lag after a spike.** After a large assignment, completions should rise over the following periods. If they don't, check the overdue count and the step map.

## Putting it to work
* **Chasing a compliance deadline:** check the **Overdue** box, then switch to **View table** and use the **Overdue** tab to send reminders to those people.
* **Fixing a Pathway people stall on:** use the step completion map to find the first step where completion drops, and its median time to see whether people get stuck there.
* **Following up on long completions:** hover over the outliers in the **Completion time** chart, then find those people in the table view.
* **Reporting upwards:** copy the chart or its data into your report, or ask Insights for a written summary.

## Copying a chart and asking for Insights
Each chart card has buttons at the bottom:

* **Copy as image** copies the card as a picture. The picture includes a caption with the item's name, the number of learners, whether the figures cover everyone or only your reports, whether disabled users are included, and when it was taken, so it still makes sense when pasted elsewhere.
* **Copy as data** copies the figures behind the card as tab-separated text, ready to paste into a spreadsheet. The completion time card copies one row per completion, including the person's name and email, start and completion dates, days taken, the Pathway it came through and whether it's an outlier. The step map copies one row per step.
* **Insights** opens the AI Assistant with the card's figures and asks what stands out. The assistant uses the numbers you can see and describes what they show, without judging them as good or bad. This button only appears when the AI Assistant is available to you.

The **Live** marker at the bottom of each card means the figures are current. New activity usually appears within about a minute.

## Things to keep in mind
* Figures count **records**, not people. If someone was assigned the same item twice, both records count.
* Statuses are as they are right now. People assigned recently naturally show as not started.
* Completion time includes records an admin marked complete on someone's behalf. Their start date may be the date they were assigned.
* If an item has more than 10,000 records, a note at the top says the analytics cover the first 10,000.
* Very small groups show a notice on Pathways, because the figures may describe individuals rather than a group. Take care when sharing them.
* Right after a large change, the step map may show a note that step progress is still catching up. Check again in a few minutes.

## FAQs
**Why doesn't the Overdue box form part of the status bar?**
An overdue record is also either not started or in progress, so it's already inside the bar. Showing it as a separate slice would count those people twice.

**Why does the completion time average look much higher than most people's times?**
A few people who took a long time pull the average up. Compare it with the median, which is the middle value, and look at the outliers in the completion time chart.

**Why is there no time on some steps in the step map?**
A time appears once at least three people have finished the step with timing. Events never show a time, because they complete on attendance.

**Why can't I see the step completion map on an Event, Form or content item?**
The step map is for Pathways, because only Pathways have steps. Events, Forms and content still show every other card.

**Does Include disabled users change the charts?**
Yes. It applies to every card in the analytics view at once.

**Can I click on an outlier to open that person?**
Not yet. Hover over the dot to see who it is, then find them in the table view.

## Who can do this
Anyone who can open a quick report for an item can use its analytics view. Who can open quick reports in each area is covered in *How to Open a Quick Report for a Learning Item*. **Owners** and **Admins** see every learner on the item. Every other role sees only the people who report to them. The **Insights** button appears only when the AI Assistant is enabled for your organisation, and only for roles within its access level. By default that's **Owners** and **Admins**. If your organisation sets the access level to include managers, **Managers** and **People Managers** see it too. **Content Managers**, **Instructors**, **Employees** and **Restricted** users never see it. These controls sit on **Settings → Features**.
