# Restricted Learning View From a Users Perspective

## Overview

Once Restricted View is switched on for your account, the learning emails your people already receive behave a little differently: the link takes them straight into the assigned learning rather than into SuperPath as a whole. This article walks through that experience from the learner's side, so you know what your people will see before you turn it on.

## The email the learner receives

When you assign an Assignment or a Pathway, SuperPath emails the learner as usual. The email shows the title of the learning that has been assigned, along with the link they use to open it — the difference is that this link opens a restricted view rather than the full app.

## What the learner sees in Restricted View

Clicking the link signs the learner in and opens that one Assignment or Pathway on its own. The experience is deliberately stripped back:

* There's no sidebar or navigation menu, and no notifications or account menu.
* In place of the account menu there's a **Your Account** button. Clicking it explains: "You are in a restricted view. If you would like to access your full account please sign in." — along with a **Sign In** button if they'd rather use their full account.
* **Learning Notes** are still available, and the comments panel is still available if comments are enabled for Assignments in your account.
* The session is locked to that single item. Trying to move anywhere else in SuperPath signs the learner out.

## If the link has expired

A restricted learning link is valid for three days. After that, opening it shows a **Learning Link Expired** screen: "It looks like this link has expired. Click the button below to generate a new link in your email."

The learner clicks **Generate New Learning Link** and SuperPath emails them a fresh one — "We have emailed you a new learning link" — so they don't need to come back to you for it. If a link is malformed or no longer valid at all, they'll instead see "Oh no! This link is invalid." and are asked to contact their administrator.

## Things to keep in mind

* Restricted links are only used for people who sign in with a password or a magic link. Anyone using Google, Microsoft or SSO receives the normal in-app link instead.
* The link is personal to the learner and to that one piece of learning — it won't open anything else, and navigating elsewhere ends the session.
* Because the session is locked, learners can't browse the Library, Knowledge or their dashboard from a restricted view. They need to click **Sign In** and use their full account for that.
* If the learner hasn't actually been assigned the item, they'll see "Ohh no! It looks like you haven't been assigned this…" and be asked to contact their administrator.

## FAQs

**Can the learner get to the rest of SuperPath from a restricted view?**
No. The session is locked to the one Assignment or Pathway in the link; moving anywhere else signs them out. They can click **Your Account → Sign In** to open their full account instead.

**Can they still take notes and comment?**
Yes — **Learning Notes** are available, and comments appear when comments are enabled for Assignments in your account.

**How long is the link valid?**
Three days. After that the learner can click **Generate New Learning Link** and a fresh link is emailed to them.

**Does the learner need a password to use the link?**
They don't need to enter one — the link signs them in. It only works for people whose sign-in method is password or magic link, though.

## Who can do this

This is the learner's experience, so it applies to **any person you assign learning to** — whatever their role — provided their sign-in method is a password or a magic link, and Auto Login and Restricted View are switched on for your account. People who sign in with Google, Microsoft or SSO keep the standard in-app link. Switching the feature on is limited to **Owners** and **Admins**, as it lives under **Settings → Security**.
