## Overview
CPD stands for **Continuing Professional Development**. CPD points are part of a system that encourages professionals to maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, skills and abilities throughout their careers. The aim is to keep people up to date with industry standards, emerging trends and best practice, so they continue to provide high-quality work in their field.

Many regulated professions require a set number of CPD points or hours each year to maintain a licence, certification or membership — lawyers, accountants, teachers, engineers, nurses, real estate agents and other healthcare and trade professionals among them.

## How CPD points are earned
Points can be earned through a range of learning and development activities, such as:

* Attending seminars, workshops or conferences.
* Completing online courses or training modules.
* Participating in mentoring programmes.
* Reading relevant journals or research papers.
* On-the-job learning or structured reflection.

As a rough guide, one hour of learning typically equates to one CPD point, though this varies by profession and accrediting body — some activities are worth more depending on their complexity or relevance.

## CPD requirements and regulating bodies
CPD is managed and monitored by professional associations, industry regulators or government bodies, and professionals are usually required to record and submit evidence of their activity. Requirements differ by profession, for example:

* **Legal professionals** — a professional body such as the Law Society may require a set number of points each year.
* **Healthcare professionals** — the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) mandates CPD for nurses, doctors and allied health workers.
* **Teachers** — registration bodies such as the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) require CPD to maintain teaching credentials.

## Tracking CPD points in SuperPath
SuperPath streamlines CPD tracking by recording the learning activities your people complete in the platform. As they finish courses, workshops and other CPD-aligned training, their earned CPD points are tracked and stored automatically — removing the need for manual record-keeping and giving accurate records to demonstrate compliance. Reports can then be generated to show completed learning and any outstanding CPD goals.

To make use of this, an Owner or Admin enables CPD points for your organisation, and you assign point values to your Learning, Pathways and Events. See *How to Enable CPD Points* and *Assigning CPD Points to Learning, Pathways and Events*.

## Classifying CPD with categories
Accrediting bodies rarely ask for a single number. They usually want CPD broken down by the type of learning it came from — and often set a minimum in particular areas, such as a certain number of ethics points each year.

**CPD categories** let you match that structure. An Owner or Admin curates a list for your organisation — *Technical*, *Ethics*, *Conferences and Seminars*, *In-House Learning*, *Self-Directed*, whatever your profession uses — and you then attach a category wherever you set CPD points. The category travels with the points to the learner's record, so both the learner and your reporting can see how their points are distributed rather than just the total.

Categories are optional. Points recorded without one show as **Uncategorised**. See *How to Manage CPD Categories*.

## Recording CPD earned outside SuperPath
Plenty of CPD happens off-platform: a conference, an external short course, a webinar, an industry event, reading someone did on their own. If your organisation enables it, people can log that learning directly in SuperPath so their total is a complete record rather than just their platform activity.

An entry captures the date the activity was completed, its title, the points, a category, the provider, and optionally a certificate or other evidence file. Entries count immediately — SuperPath treats them as self-reported, with no approval step. An Owner or Admin controls whether this is available and to whom. See *How to Manually Add CPD Points*.

## Where learners see their CPD points
Every learner has a **CPD** tab on their profile listing each activity with its date, points, learning and category. They can filter by category and by period, see their total for that selection, and download a **CPD transcript** as a PDF for their accrediting body.

Managers and admins get the org-wide view through the **CPD Points Report**, which totals points per person, per category and across a Team. See *CPD Points Report*.

## FAQs
**How many CPD points is an activity worth?**
It depends on your profession and accrediting body. A common rule of thumb is one point per hour of learning, but some activities carry more weight.

**Does SuperPath track CPD points automatically?**
Yes. Once CPD points are enabled and assigned to your learning items, SuperPath records the points a learner earns as they complete that learning.

**Who decides how many points a piece of learning is worth?**
You do — an Owner, Admin or content creator sets the point value on each Learning, Pathway or Event. See *Assigning CPD Points to Learning, Pathways and Events*.

**Can a learner record CPD they did elsewhere?**
Yes, if an Owner or Admin has enabled it and the **Who can add CPD points** setting allows their role. See *How to Manually Add CPD Points*.

**Do I have to categorise CPD points?**
No. Categories are optional and CPD works the same without them — points simply report as **Uncategorised**.

**Can a learner prove their CPD to an external body?**
Yes. From the **CPD** tab of their profile they can download a CPD transcript PDF for a chosen period, listing each activity with its date, points and category.

## Who can do this
Anyone can view their own CPD points and download their own transcript from the **CPD** tab of their profile. Enabling the CPD Points feature, enabling manual CPD entry and managing the category list are done in **Settings → Features** by an **Owner** or **Admin**. Setting points and a category on a Learning, Pathway or Event is open to **Owners**, **Admins**, **Managers**, **Content Managers** and **Instructors**. The **CPD Points Report** is available to **Owners**, **Admins**, **Managers** and **People Managers**.
