Overview


Connecting SuperPath to Slack brings your learning into the place your people already work. Learners get their notifications and a personal My Learnings dashboard in Slack, approvers can approve or decline requests without leaving the message, shared links become rich previews, and your admins can ask the SuperPath AI Assistant about your learning data in a direct message. You connect once for your whole organisation from Settings → Integrations.


What your organisation gets in Slack


  • Notifications as Slack messages. New learning, due and overdue reminders, completions, approvals, learning requests, badges and certificates, discussions and more arrive as direct messages from the SuperPath app, with a button that goes straight to the learning.
  • Approve and decline in one tap. Approvers can approve or decline learning requests, step approvals, assignment approvals and self registrations right from the message. See How to Approve and Decline Requests in Slack.
  • My Learnings on the Home tab. Everyone gets a Home tab in the SuperPath app showing what is overdue, due soon and in progress. See How to Use SuperPath in Slack.
  • Rich link previews. Paste a SuperPath Pathway or course link into a channel and it becomes a preview card. Clicking it shows each person their own progress, privately.
  • The AI Assistant in Slack. People who can use the AI Assistant in SuperPath can ask it questions in a direct message with the SuperPath app. See How to Use the AI Assistant in Slack.


Before you start


  • SuperPath finds each person in Slack by their email address, so a person only receives SuperPath messages if the email on their SuperPath account matches the email on their Slack account.
  • Your Slack workspace may require a Slack admin to approve new apps. If so, ask them to approve the SuperPath app when you connect.
  • The AI Assistant in Slack needs a paid Slack plan. Everything else works on any plan.


How to connect Slack


  1. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Hover over the Slack tile and click View Details.
  3. Click Add to Slack.
  4. In the Slack authorisation screen, check the workspace in the top right, review the access requested and click Allow.
  5. You are returned to SuperPath and the Slack tile shows that it is connected.


Every notification category is switched on when you first connect. You can change them straight away, as below.


How to choose which notifications go to Slack


  1. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Hover over the Slack tile and click Manage.
  3. Switch each notification category on or off. Hover over the help icon beside a category to see exactly which notifications it covers.
  4. Click Update Slack to save.


The categories are New learning notifications, Learning due notifications, Due date changed notifications, Approval notifications, Completion notifications, Badge and certificate notifications, Roadmap notifications, Learning request notifications, Discussion notifications, New user notifications, Admin notifications, and Workflow and announcement notifications.


Tip: Switching off Approval notifications or Learning request notifications also removes the Approve and Decline buttons from Slack, because those buttons travel on the notifications.



Notifications reach people as soon as Slack is connected. To press a button, see their Home tab or open a link preview, each person links their Slack account to SuperPath once.


  1. In Slack, open the SuperPath app, or press any button on a SuperPath message.
  2. Click Connect account. Your browser opens SuperPath.
  3. Sign in to SuperPath if you are asked to, check the Slack workspace and account shown, and click Connect account.
  4. Head back to Slack. The Home tab now shows your learning, and buttons work.


From then on, anything a person does in Slack is recorded in SuperPath under their name, with their normal SuperPath permissions. A person can unlink their own account at any time from My Profile.


How to disconnect Slack


  1. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Hover over the Slack tile and click Manage.
  3. Click Disconnect from Slack and confirm.


Disconnecting stops Slack notifications for everyone, removes the SuperPath app from your Slack workspace and unlinks everyone's Slack account. If you connect again later, your notification categories go back to their defaults.


Things to keep in mind


  • Slack is connected once for your whole organisation. People never connect Slack themselves, they only link their own account.
  • The SuperPath app never posts in channels on its own. It only sends direct messages, and only replies in its own direct messages.
  • Link previews appear for links on your SuperPath address (for example app.superpath.io). Links on a custom domain stay as plain links.
  • A Slack workspace can be connected to one SuperPath organisation at a time.


FAQs


A person is not receiving any Slack messages. Why?
The email address on their SuperPath account must match the email address on their Slack account, and they must be a full member of the workspace. Check both, and check the notification category is switched on in Settings → Integrations → Slack → Manage.


Do I need to connect Slack for each person?
No. You connect once for the organisation. Each person only links their own Slack account, the first time they press a button or open the SuperPath app.


We connected Slack before the new features arrived. How do we get them?
Approvals, the Home tab and notifications work on your existing connection. Link previews and the AI Assistant need the permissions added in the new version of the app, so disconnect Slack and connect it again. Your notification categories return to their defaults and each person links their account again.


Can I remove the connection later?
Yes. Open the Slack integration under Settings → Integrations, click Manage and then Disconnect from Slack.


Who can do this


Owners and Admins can connect and disconnect Slack and choose which notifications go to Slack. Access to Settings is limited to these roles, and the Integrations tab additionally requires permission to manage integrations, which only Owners and Admins have. Managers, Content Managers, People Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot. Anyone can link and unlink their own Slack account once Slack is connected.
