Overview

If you build your skills library in HiBob, you can mirror it into SuperPath rather than re-keying it. SuperPath reads your HiBob Skills catalogue once a day, creates the matching skills in your SuperPath Skills catalogue, and keeps them up to date as you change them in Bob. You can then attach those skills to Library content, Pathways and Events exactly as you would a skill you created yourself, and your people earn them automatically when they complete that learning.

Synced skills bring across everything Bob holds about them: the skill name, its category, its description, and each of its proficiency levels along with that level's behaviour description. Because HiBob stays the source of truth, synced skills are read-only in SuperPath and are managed in Bob.

Before you start

  • Your HiBob integration must already be connected. See "How to Connect and Configure HiBob".
  • Your HiBob app needs the View reports permission, which is what lets SuperPath read your report. It was added for skills sync, so if you connected HiBob before this feature was released, you need to reconnect the integration once to grant it. Go to Settings → Integrations, open HiBob, click Manage, and click Reconnect under Additional actions. Nothing you have configured is lost, and SuperPath also prompts you to reconnect if it finds the permission missing.
  • When you reconnect, Bob asks for three permissions together: View reports, Manage documents and View skills. Accept all three. Bob refuses the whole connection if the permissions you tick do not match the ones the SuperPath app is set up to request, so leaving one out stops the reconnect rather than just that one feature.
  • You need to be an Owner or Admin in SuperPath, and an Admin in HiBob.

Step 1: Create the report in HiBob

SuperPath reads your skills from a HiBob report that you create, and it finds that report by name. The name has to match exactly.

  1. In HiBob, go to Analytics → Reports and click Add report.
  2. Choose the built-in Skills Catalog template. Please don't build a report from scratch, because SuperPath expects the columns that template produces.
  3. Name the report exactly SuperPath - Skills Catalogue. Capitalisation matters, including the capital P in SuperPath, as does the "ue" on the end of "Catalogue".
  4. Save the report to a company reports folder. A report saved in your personal My reports folder is not visible to SuperPath. The folder's own name doesn't matter.

Note: The report name is the only link between Bob and SuperPath, so renaming or deleting it later stops the sync until a report with that exact name exists again. See Troubleshooting below.

Step 2: Turn on Sync skills in SuperPath

  1. In SuperPath, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Click the HiBob integration and select View Details.
  3. Turn on the Sync skills toggle. SuperPath checks HiBob for your report straight away and shows Checking report... while it does.
  4. Click Update Bob to save.

There is nothing to choose or paste here. SuperPath looks up the report by name every time it runs, so there is no report setting to keep in step with Bob.

If SuperPath cannot find your report, the toggle switches itself back off and tells you why, because a sync that cannot run would only fail every night. Fix the report in Bob, then turn the toggle on again.

Step 3: Run the first sync

The sync runs automatically once a day, but you don't have to wait for it.

  1. In the HiBob integration details, find Sync skills now under the additional actions.
  2. Click it and confirm.

The sync runs in the background and you are notified when it finishes. To see what it did, go to Settings → Integration logs, where each run records how many skills were created, updated, adopted, archived and skipped.

Good to know: Running the sync again when nothing has changed in Bob is safe. It simply reports everything as updated and changes nothing.

What happens on every sync

Each run compares your Bob report against the skills SuperPath already holds from Bob:

  • A skill that is new in Bob is created in SuperPath, with its category, description and every proficiency level.
  • A skill you changed in Bob is updated in place. This includes renaming the skill or one of its levels: SuperPath matches on Bob's own identifiers, so a rename updates the existing skill instead of creating a duplicate.
  • A skill you removed from Bob, or set to any status other than Active, is archived in SuperPath. It disappears from your Skills catalogue, but skills your people have already earned stay on their profiles, and any learning it was attached to is unaffected.
  • A skill whose name already exists in SuperPath is adopted rather than duplicated. Your existing skill becomes a synced skill managed by Bob, keeping the learning it is attached to and the people who have earned it. Its proficiency levels are then replaced by Bob's, so any level Bob doesn't define is archived.
  • Rows that are not Active in Bob are skipped and counted in the log.

If the report downloads but comes back empty, SuperPath stops and records a failure rather than archiving your whole catalogue.

Working with synced skills

Synced skills sit alongside the skills you create yourself, at Settings → Features → Manage skills, with a few differences:

  • A plug icon next to the skill's name marks it as synced from your HR system. You'll see the same icon wherever the skill appears, including a person's earned skills and the Skills learnt field on your learning.
  • Synced skills cannot be edited or deleted in SuperPath, so the delete icon is hidden on their rows. Change or remove them in HiBob and the next sync follows.
  • Description and Category columns appear in the catalogue once you have synced skills, because those details only come from your HR system.
  • Proficiency levels use whatever ladder you have built in Bob rather than SuperPath's four fixed levels, and each level badge carries an information icon. Hover it to read that level's behaviour description from Bob.

Everything else works exactly as it does for skills you create in SuperPath. You attach them to Library content, Pathways, Events and Roadmap competency levels, and your people earn them on completion at the level you attached.

Troubleshooting

"File doesn't exist" beside the Sync skills toggle, and Sync skills now is greyed out
SuperPath could not find a report named SuperPath - Skills Catalogue in a company folder in Bob. Check the name character for character, including the capital P in SuperPath, check it isn't in My reports, then turn the toggle on again.

"Duplicate file name"
More than one report in Bob carries that name, so SuperPath will not guess which catalogue to mirror. Rename or delete the duplicates so exactly one remains.

You are asked to reconnect the integration
HiBob rejected the request. This usually means the View reports permission has not been granted to the app, or the connection has expired. Go to Settings → Integrations, open HiBob, click Manage, and click Reconnect under Additional actions, then accept all of the requested permissions.

The reconnect itself fails, mentioning scopes
Bob refuses a connection when the permissions ticked do not match the ones the SuperPath app requests. Go through the reconnect again and accept View reports, Manage documents and View skills together.

The sync worked, then stopped
The most likely cause is that the report was renamed, moved to a personal folder, or deleted in Bob. The daily run records the reason in Settings → Integration logs, along with what to create and what to call it.

Things to keep in mind

  • The sync is one way. SuperPath mirrors your Bob catalogue and never writes skills back into Bob, so it cannot create or change anything in your HR system.
  • Skills your people earn in SuperPath are not pushed to Bob's Talent module. HiBob does not currently offer a way for us to write an employee's skills, so earned skills live in SuperPath.
  • Skill categories come across as text on the skill. They are not connected to SuperPath's own category tree.
  • The daily sync runs overnight, so a change you make in Bob during the day appears the next morning unless you click Sync skills now.
  • Archiving is not destructive. A skill that leaves your Bob catalogue is removed from the SuperPath catalogue, but nobody loses a skill they already earned.

FAQs

Do I have to pick which report to use?
No. SuperPath finds the report by its name, so there is nothing to select and nothing that can fall out of step. The trade-off is that the name has to be exactly SuperPath - Skills Catalogue.

What happens if I rename a skill in HiBob?
The skill is updated in place at the next sync and keeps the learning it is attached to, along with everyone who has already earned it. The same is true if you rename one of its proficiency levels.

Can I edit a synced skill in SuperPath?
No. Synced skills are managed in HiBob, so make the change there. If SuperPath allowed local edits, the next sync would simply undo them.

I already created some of these skills by hand. Will I end up with duplicates?
No. Where a Bob skill matches the name of one you created, SuperPath adopts your existing skill rather than creating a second one, and it keeps the content links and earned skills attached to it. That skill then becomes read-only, and its levels change to match Bob's.

Does reconnecting or disconnecting HiBob lose my skills sync setup?
There is no setup to lose. The report is found by name on every run, so reconnecting is safe, and the Reconnect button keeps your settings and sync options. You only need to turn Sync skills back on if the integration is deleted and set up again.

Will this delete skills my people have earned?
No. Archiving a skill removes it from the catalogue only. Earned skills stay on people's profiles.

Who can do this

Owners and Admins can turn on Sync skills and run Sync skills now, because they are the only roles with access to Settings → Integrations. Viewing the resulting skills in the catalogue follows the normal Skills rules: Owners, Admins, Managers, Content Managers and Instructors can see and manage the catalogue, while People Managers, Employees and Restricted users cannot. No role can edit or delete a synced skill in SuperPath.
