Overview

Assigning a Pathway puts it in front of the right learners and tracks their progress towards completion. You can assign a Pathway to individual people, to whole Teams, or to both at once — choosing when it starts, when it's due, whether it repeats on a schedule, and whether to notify the assignees. This article walks through assigning a published Pathway from the Pathways list.

How to assign a Pathway

  1. Go to Pathways and find the Pathway you want to assign. The Assign icon is only available once a Pathway is Published — if it's still a draft, publish it first.
  2. Click the Assign (people) icon in the Pathway's row actions to open the Assign to people & Teams dialog. You can also open the same dialog from within the Pathway itself.

  1. In the search box, type the name of the person or Team you want to assign the Pathway to and select them. Selected entries show a Team badge so you can tell people and Teams apart, and you can add as many as you need.

  1. Choose when to assign it: Assign now to enrol the learners immediately, or Schedule for later to pick a future date for the Pathway to be assigned.
  2. If you chose Assign now, set an optional Start date and a Due date if the Pathway needs to be completed by a certain date.
  3. If you chose Schedule for later, set the Scheduled date instead, and you can also make the assignment repeat. Turn on Recurring Schedule to set a monthly or yearly repeat for a chosen number of occurrences, with the due date set as a number of Due days after each occurrence rather than a fixed date.

  1. Decide whether to tell the assignees. Leave Notify people on to email them about their new Pathway, and add a custom message if you'd like to tailor it — leave the message blank to send the default. Turn the toggle off to assign quietly.

  1. Click Assign to complete the assignment.

Tip: Under Advanced you can use Exclude users or teams to leave specific people or Teams out — handy when you assign to a large Team but want to skip a few members.

Things to keep in mind

  • You can only assign a Pathway once it is Published — the Assign icon is disabled on drafts.
  • Assigning to a Team enrols that Team's current members. For a static Team, people added later aren't assigned retrospectively; a Dynamic Team keeps its membership up to date and picks up new matching learners for future assignments.
  • By default a person who already has an active copy of the Pathway is not re-assigned. Turn on Reassign even if incomplete if you need to reset everyone's assignment.
  • Notify people is on by default. Turn it off if you'd rather announce the assignment another way.

FAQs

Can I assign to a person and a Team at the same time?
Yes. Search for and select any mix of people and Teams in the dialog before you assign.

What's the difference between Assign now and Schedule for later?
Assign now enrols the learners straight away. Schedule for later assigns the Pathway on a future date you choose, and only then does it appear in the learners' My Learning. Recurring schedules are available under Schedule for later.

Do I have to notify people?
No. The Notify people toggle controls whether assignees are emailed. Leave it off to assign quietly, or turn it on and optionally add a custom message.

How do I assign the same Pathway to everyone?
Assign it to a Team that contains all your people — usually an all-staff Dynamic Team. See How to Assign a Pathway to Everyone at Once.

Who can do this

Owners, Admins, Managers, Content Managers and Instructors can assign Pathways from the Pathways list. People Managers, Employees and Restricted users have read-only access to Pathways and cannot assign them.
