Overview

Some learning asks you to confirm a statement before it counts as complete, for example that you have read and understood a policy. You'll see an Acknowledgement required chip on the learning, and an Acknowledge button where Mark as complete would normally be. Acknowledging records your name, the date and the exact statement you agreed to on your learning record. (Setting a learning up to require an acknowledgement is done by an Admin or content creator. See How to Require an Acknowledgement on a Learning.)

How to acknowledge a learning

  1. Open the learning from your assignments or the Pathway, and read, watch or complete it as normal. You can open the Acknowledgement required chip at any time to read the statement.
  2. When it's available, click Acknowledge (see If the Acknowledge button is greyed out). A window opens showing the statement.
  3. Read the statement, then tick I have read the statement above and agree to it.
  4. Click the button at the bottom of the window. What it says depends on what the learning still needs:
    • Acknowledge and mark as complete completes the learning.
    • Acknowledge and mark as attended marks an Event as attended.
    • Acknowledge and submit for review sends the learning to your approver.
    • Acknowledge records your acknowledgement when you still need to submit evidence.

Note: The button in the window stays disabled until you tick the box.

If the Acknowledge button is greyed out

For some content, the Acknowledge button stays unavailable until you've finished it, just like Mark as complete. Hover over the button to see why. The reasons are:

  • A video that plays in SuperPath shows "Finish this content to acknowledge it." until you've watched it.
  • A SCORM course shows "Finish this content to acknowledge it." until you've finished it, and a Mindsmith course shows "Pass this course to acknowledge it." until you've passed.
  • An Event shows "You can acknowledge this event once it has started."
  • Content that didn't load shows "This content could not be loaded. Reload the page to try again." Reload the page, as you would to mark it complete.

Documents (PDFs included), links, Knowledge articles and text steps can be acknowledged straight away.

The Acknowledge button itself is also unavailable while the learning can't be started yet, for example when an earlier Pathway step must be completed first or the start date hasn't arrived.

After you acknowledge

  • The learning shows Acknowledged on with the date. Click View statement to see exactly what you agreed to.
  • If the learning also needs evidence, the Submit evidence button appears next. See How to Submit Evidence for a Learning Step.
  • If it needs approval, it is now awaiting review. If your approver declines it and you resubmit, you won't need to acknowledge again.

If you've finished a course but haven't acknowledged yet, you'll see "One more step: acknowledge the statement to finish this learning." The course doesn't count as complete until you do.

Things to keep in mind

  • You can only acknowledge once. Your acknowledgement and its date stay on your record, even if the statement is changed later.
  • There is no "I do not agree" option. If you have a question about the statement, speak to whoever assigned the learning before you acknowledge.
  • Only you can acknowledge your own learning. Your manager or an Admin can't acknowledge it for you.
  • On a phone, the window opens from the bottom of the screen and works the same way.

FAQs

Why don't I see Mark as complete?
The learning requires an acknowledgement. Click Acknowledge instead: it acknowledges and completes the learning in one go.

I finished the course but it isn't complete. Why?
Courses with an acknowledgement don't complete on their own. Click Acknowledge, tick the box and confirm to finish.

Can I read the statement before I start?
Yes. Open the Acknowledgement required chip at any time to read it. The Acknowledge window opens once the content is finished, or straight away for links, documents, Knowledge articles and text steps. You don't have to tick the box until you're ready.

What if I see "Your acknowledgement was saved, but this page could not refresh"?
Your acknowledgement went through. Reload the page to see it.

Who can do this

Every learner, whatever their role, acknowledges their own learning, including Restricted users. Anyone else who opens your learning, such as your manager or an approver, sees Not yet acknowledged until you've done it, and cannot acknowledge on your behalf.
