Overview

If a course or resource has a code or identifier in another system — for example a course code used in your reporting or a reference from another platform — you can store it against the content using the External ID / Code field. Recording it here keeps the reference alongside the content so it can be used for reporting.

How to add an external ID or code

  1. Open the content item from your Library and open the Edit content panel (the pencil icon on the right-hand toolbar).
  2. Find the External ID / Code field.
  3. Enter the external code or ID.
  4. Click Save changes to save.

Note: Use this field if the content has an external code or ID that is used for reporting.

Things to keep in mind

  • The value is free text, so it can hold whatever format your other system uses.
  • The External ID / Code field is available on most content but is not shown for some integrated content types.
