Overview
Some learnings in the Library can't simply be added to your list — they need to be approved before they start. When that's the case, instead of an Add to My Learnings or Register for event button you'll see a Request Learning button. This article explains how to send that request and what happens next.
How to request a learning
- Go to the Library and open the learning you're interested in.
- Click Request Learning.
- In the Request Approval window, confirm you want to go ahead — you'll be asked "Are you sure you want to send request for approval?"
- Click Confirm request.
You'll see an Approval request has been sent confirmation once it's on its way.
What happens after you request
- The button changes to Awaiting Review and is disabled while your request is being considered.
- When your request is approved, the learning is assigned to you and appears in My Learnings; the Library button becomes Continue learning so you can start it.
- When your request is declined, you can view the reason it was declined and, if you'd like, request it again.
Where requests are reviewed
Your request goes to the person set up to approve it in your organisation. Reviewers see incoming requests on the Learning Requests page, where they can approve a request — optionally setting a due date — or decline it with a reason. That page is the reviewer's inbox; as a learner you make your request from the Library, not from there.
Things to keep in mind
- The Request Learning button only appears when your organisation has learning requests enabled and the specific learning is set to require approval before self-assignment. Learnings without that setting can be added directly with Add to My Learnings or Register for event.
- You can't start a learning while its request is Awaiting Review — you'll be able to once it's approved.
- If your request is declined you'll be notified, and you can submit a fresh request from the same Library page.
- Once approved, the learning behaves like any other assignment in My Learnings.
FAQs
Why do I see "Request Learning" instead of "Add to My Learnings"?
That learning is set to require approval before it can start, so rather than adding it directly you send a request for someone to approve.
How will I know if my request is approved?
You'll be notified, and the learning appears in My Learnings. On the Library page the button changes to Continue learning.
What if my request is declined?
You can view the reason it was declined and request the learning again from the same Library page if you'd like it reconsidered.
Can I request any learning?
No — only learnings that are set to require approval show the Request Learning button, and only when your organisation has the learning requests feature enabled.
Who can do this
Any learner can request a learning that requires approval — this includes Employees, Restricted users and every other role — provided the feature is enabled for your organisation and the learning is set to require approval. Approving or declining requests is done by the designated reviewer (for example a Manager, Admin or Owner) on the Learning Requests page, not by the requester.
