How to Set a Pathway's Category, Level and Skills

Overview

Categories, levels and skills describe what a Pathway is about, so learners can find the right learning and you can report on it. Setting them takes a moment in the Pathway settings panel, and each choice saves as you go.

Set the Category

1. Go to Pathways and open the Pathway.
2. In the pathway header, click the Settings (cog) icon to open the Pathway settings panel.
3. At the top, use the Category selector to choose a category (and, where available, a sub-category and topic).
4. Your choice saves automatically.

Set the Level

1. In the same panel, open the Level dropdown.
2. Pick an experience level (this field is optional — leave it blank if it doesn't apply).
3. It saves automatically.

Set the Skills learnt

1. Find the Skills Learnt field.
2. Start typing to search for and add the skills a learner gains from the Pathway.
3. Each skill you add saves automatically; remove one to take it off the Pathway.

Good to know: Category, Level and Skills are all optional. They help with discovery, filtering and reporting, but a Pathway will work without them.

Things to keep in mind

• Every change in the settings panel saves automatically — there's no separate Save button.
• Category, Level and Skills are metadata for discovery and reporting; they don't change the Pathway's content or steps.
• Categories and skills are shared across your organisation, so the options you see are the ones set up for your account.

Are these fields required?
No. Category, Level and Skills are all optional — set the ones that are useful to you.

Where are these used?
They power search, filtering and reporting, and help learners find relevant Pathways in the Library.

Do my changes save automatically?
Yes. Selections in the Pathway settings panel save as you make them.

Who can do this

Owners, Admins, Managers, Content Managers and Instructors can set a Pathway's category, level and skills. People Managers, Employees and Restricted users have read-only access to Pathways and cannot change these settings.
