How to Activate Restricted Learning View

Overview

Restricted View lets your people open a single piece of assigned learning straight from their email, without navigating the rest of SuperPath. The learning opens on its own — no sidebar, no navigation and no account menu — so the learner can focus on finishing that one item.

Restricted View sits inside SuperPath's Auto Login feature, so you switch on Auto Login first and then switch on Restricted View underneath it. Both live under Settings → Security. For a fuller explanation of what Restricted View is and what the learner sees, see What is Restricted View for Users?

Note: Restricted View is not the same thing as the Restricted role. A Restricted user is a person who only ever sees their own assigned learning when they log in; Restricted View is a locked, single-learning session opened from a link. See Using Restricted Users in SuperPath for the role.

Before you start

• Auto Login and Restricted View are only available on paid plans. On a free or trial plan the section shows "This security feature is only available for paid accounts."
• Auto Login and Restricted View only work for people who sign in with a password or a magic link. They are not supported for Google, Microsoft or SAML/SSO sign-ins.

How to activate Auto Login and Restricted View

1. In the left-hand menu, go to Settings → Security.

2. Find the Auto Login section and switch on Enable auto login for your users (Additional work required). SuperPath immediately generates an Auto Login secret and shows it to you once — copy it now, because the dialog warns "Please copy this key as it will NOT be visible again". You can generate a replacement later with Generate New Auto Login Secret.
3. Switch on Enable restricted view for users. This toggle only appears once Auto Login is on.
4. Click Save changes in the bar at the top of the page.

Tip: Generating the Auto Login links themselves is developer work. Both the Auto Login section and the Restricted View toggle link out to the Developer documentation — send that to whoever handles your integration.

What happens once it's switched on

With Auto Login and Restricted View both on, the notification emails SuperPath already sends for new learning change their link. Instead of pointing at the normal in-app page, the email links the person straight into a restricted view of just that item.

This applies to Assignment and Pathway notification emails, and to the reminder emails SuperPath sends for learning that is still outstanding. Each link is valid for three days; after that the learner can request a fresh one for themselves. For the learner's side of this, see Restricted Learning View From a Users Perspective.

Things to keep in mind

• The Enable restricted view for users toggle is nested under Auto Login — it isn't visible until Auto Login is switched on, and switching Auto Login off again clears both the secret and the Restricted View setting.
• Restricted links are only used for people whose sign-in method is password or magic link. Anyone signing in with Google, Microsoft or SSO keeps receiving the normal in-app link.
• Nothing changes for existing emails already in someone's inbox — the link is decided at the moment the email is sent.
• Keep the Auto Login secret private. It signs the links, so treat it like any other credential: "It is your responsibility to keep it safe. If at any time you suspect a key has been compromised, please revoke and generate a new key."

FAQs

Do I have to enable Auto Login to use Restricted View?
Yes. Restricted View is part of Auto Login, and its toggle only appears once Auto Login is switched on.

Why can't I see the Auto Login section?
Either you're not on a paid plan, or you're not in Settings → Security — the whole Settings area is only available to Owners and Admins.

Does this work with SSO?
No. Auto Login and Restricted View only work for people who sign in with a password or a magic link.

What if I lose the Auto Login secret?
Click Generate New Auto Login Secret to create a new one. Remember that any integration using the old secret will need updating.

How long does a restricted learning link last?
Three days. After that the learner sees a "Learning Link Expired" screen and can generate a new link, which is emailed to them.

Who can do this

Owners and Admins can switch on Auto Login and Restricted View — the whole Settings area is limited to those two roles. Managers, Content Managers, People Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot open Settings and so cannot change this. Building the Auto Login links themselves is a developer task rather than a role in SuperPath.
