Overview

Teams are how you group your people in SuperPath — by department, location, cohort, or any structure that suits your organisation. Setting them up correctly lets you assign learning, run reports and manage access at the group level rather than one person at a time. This article covers creating a standard (static) Team; you can also create a Dynamic Team that populates itself from criteria you define — see the Dynamic Teams article.

How to add a Team

  1. Go to Settings → Teams.
  2. Click Create Team.
  3. On the Static tab, enter a Name for the team.
  4. Under Parent Team (optional), search for and select a team this one should sit under. Parent teams are useful for nested, multi-level structures — see the How to Create a Sub-Team article.
  5. Under Primary manager (optional), search for and select the person who manages the team.
  6. Under Additional Managers (optional), add any other managers who share responsibility for the team.
  7. Click Create.

The new team appears in your Teams list, ready for you to add people.

Tip: To create a self-populating team instead, switch to the Dynamic tab when creating the team and set your criteria. See the Dynamic Teams article.

Things to keep in mind

  • A team needs only a Name to be created — the parent team and managers are all optional and can be added or changed later from Edit Team.
  • Only people who hold a Manager, People Manager, Admin or Owner role appear in the manager search.
  • Additional Managers can only be added once a Primary manager has been set.
  • Teams come in two types: Static (managed manually) and Dynamic (populated automatically from criteria). The type is chosen at creation and can't be changed afterwards.
  • Once the team exists, add people to it from the team page (see the Adding people to a team article) and set a picture from the Setting a Team Avatar article.

FAQs

What's the difference between a static and a Dynamic Team?
A static Team has members you add and remove yourself; a Dynamic Team automatically includes anyone who matches the criteria you set. You choose the type on the Static or Dynamic tab when creating the team. See the Dynamic Teams article for more.

Do I have to assign a manager when I create a team?
No. The Primary manager and Additional Managers fields are optional — leave them blank and add managers later if you prefer. See the How to Assign a Manager to a Team article.

How do I make one team sit under another?
Set the Parent Team field when creating the team, or add it later from Edit Team. See the How to Create a Sub-Team article.

How do I add people to the team?
Open the team from the Teams list and use Add People — see the Adding people to a team article.

Who can do this

Owners and Admins can create Teams. Managers, People Managers, Content Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot create Teams — though a Manager who is set as a team's Primary Manager can edit that team once it exists.
