Overview
Restricted users let you bring people into SuperPath who only need access to their assigned learning. It's ideal for external stakeholders such as contractors, consultants or third parties who need to complete training without seeing the rest of the platform. The result is a secure, focused experience — the person signs in and goes straight to what's been assigned to them.
What Restricted users can access
Restricted users can:
- View the learning and Pathways assigned to them
- Start and complete their assigned content
- Receive notifications for assignments and due dates
Restricted users cannot:
- Access the platform navigation or sidebar
- Browse other people or Teams
- Access any admin or management features
How to add a Restricted user
You can add a Restricted user manually or send them an invite. Both start from the Add People button on the People page.
Add someone manually
- Go to People.
- Click Add People and choose Manually Add Person.
- Enter the person's details.
- Set their Role to Restricted.
- Optionally add them to a Team.
- Click Add Person.
Invite someone
- Go to People.
- Click Add People and choose Invite People.
- Enter the person's email address.
- Select Restricted as their role (required).
- Optionally add them to a Team.
- Click Send Invite. They'll receive an email inviting them to set up their account.

Note: You assign learning to a Restricted user after they've been added — from their profile, or by assigning content or a Pathway to them like any other User. Learning isn't assigned during the add or invite step itself.
What a Restricted user sees
Restricted users get a deliberately simplified experience:
- No sidebar or navigation menu
- They land directly on their assigned learning
- They can start and complete their assigned content

Things to keep in mind
- Use the Restricted role for external or temporary access, where the person only needs to complete assigned learning.
- Learning is assigned after the person is added, so plan to assign their content once they're set up.
- Invite emails are time-limited — invited people should accept before the invite expires. You can resend an invite if it lapses.
- Clearly communicate expectations, such as due dates and completion requirements, since Restricted users don't have the wider platform for context.
FAQs
Can I assign learning while I'm adding or inviting a Restricted user?
No. The add and invite steps capture the person's details, role and (optionally) a Team. You assign their learning afterwards — from their profile, or by assigning content or a Pathway to them as you would any other User.
Will a Restricted user see the dashboard, Library or other people?
No. Restricted users have no sidebar or navigation and are taken straight to their assigned learning. They can't browse other people or Teams, or reach admin and management features.
Do Restricted users get notified about their learning?
Yes. They receive notifications for new assignments and upcoming due dates.
What happens when I invite someone?
SuperPath sends them an invite email with instructions to set up their account. Invites are time-limited; if one expires you can resend it.
Can I change someone to or from the Restricted role later?
Yes. Edit the person's profile and change their role. Their access updates to match the new role.
Who can do this
Owners and Admins can add and invite Restricted users. Managers, People Managers, Content Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot add or invite new people.
