Overview
Bulk Add / Update People lets you create — or update — many Users at once from a CSV file, instead of adding them one by one. It's the quickest way to get started on a new account, to onboard a large intake, or to keep a group of people up to date when they aren't synced automatically from an HR system.
The upload is a five-stage wizard — Prepare, Upload, Mapping, Validate and Review — and then runs in the background, so you can leave the page while it processes.

How to bulk upload Users
Step 1: Open Bulk Add / Update People
- In the left-hand menu, go to People.
- Click Add People and choose Bulk Add / Update People.

Step 2: Prepare your CSV
The Prepare step lists every field SuperPath can import and explains what each one expects. Click Download template to get a CSV with the correct column headers already in place.

Fill in the template. First Name, Last Name and Email are required for every person; Employee ID, Position, Manager Email, Teams and Role are optional. The template includes one example row to show the expected format — replace or delete it before you upload. When you're done, save the file as a .CSV; this is essential, as the upload only accepts CSV files.

Step 3: Upload your file
Back on the bulk upload screen, click Next, then drag your saved CSV into the upload area — or click click to upload and browse for it.

Step 4: Map your columns
On the Mapping step, check that each Person Field is matched to the right column from your file. The Sample Data column shows a real value from your sheet, so you can confirm the correct data is being picked up. First Name, Last Name and Email must be mapped before you can continue. Adjust anything that looks wrong, then click Next.

Step 5: Validate the data
The Validate step shows the data SuperPath has read from your file, with the total number of people at the top. Any problems are counted and highlighted in red — for example a missing name or an invalid email address. If you need to correct something, fix your CSV and use Back to upload. Once the data is error-free, click Review.

Step 6: Review and upload
On the Review step, choose the Login Type everyone will use (required), optionally set a Default Role for rows where you didn't specify one, and turn Send Welcome Email on or off. If no role is set in your CSV and none is selected here, people are created as Employees.

Click Upload. SuperPath processes the file in the background, so you don't need to stay on the page — you'll be emailed when it finishes, and Monitor Upload takes you to a page showing progress, successes and any failures. Your new Users appear in the People list as they're created.

Tip: Upload your Admins and Managers first, then everyone else. Manager Email is matched against people who already exist in your account, so doing it in that order means reporting lines are set correctly in a single pass.
Things to keep in mind
- This flow both adds and updates. If someone in your file already exists (matched on their email address), their profile is updated with the fields in your CSV rather than duplicated.
- Existing Owners and Admins keep their current role even if your CSV specifies a different one — their role is deliberately protected from bulk changes.
- The Role column accepts
employee, manageroradmin, and defaults toemployeewhen left blank. - Manager Email must match the manager's SuperPath login email exactly, and that person needs to exist in your account already. Leave it blank if you don't want to set a manager.
- Teams must match the names of Teams that already exist in your account. List several by separating them with semicolons, e.g.
Sales; All;Marketing. A bulk upload never creates new Teams, and any Team name it can't match is skipped. - Team memberships are added, not replaced — an upload won't remove someone from a Team they're already in.
- If your plan has a fixed number of seats, the upload is rejected when it would take you past your seat count.
- To use Google or Microsoft sign-in, invite those people from Add People → Invite People instead — that flow is built for provider-based logins.
- If you use Custom Fields for People, the Prepare step lists their keys under Additional details — use those keys as your CSV column headers (there's a Copy keys button) and SuperPath matches the columns for you automatically. File-type Custom Fields can't be set through a bulk upload.
- If access expiry is enabled on your account, you can include an Access Expiry Date column. Use the format
YYYY-MM-DD, and it must be a future date. Leave it blank for permanent access.
FAQs
Do I have to stay on the page while it uploads?
No. The file is processed in the background. You'll receive an email when it's finished, and Monitor Upload opens a page showing the total number of records, how many succeeded, how many failed, and the reason for each failure.
What happens if only some rows fail?
The rest are still created. Each failed row is listed with its reason, so you can correct just those and upload them again.
Can I use this to update people who are already in SuperPath?
Yes — that's the "Update" in Bulk Add / Update People. Anyone matched on their email address is updated with the fields in your file.
Do I have to send the welcome email straight away?
No. Leave Send Welcome Email switched off on the Review step and send it later — individually or in bulk — from the People list.
Can I upload an Excel file?
No. Save your spreadsheet as a .csv file first; anything else is rejected.
Who can do this
Owners and Admins can bulk upload Users — the Add People button, and the Bulk Add / Update People option inside it, is only shown to those roles, and the upload itself is rejected for anyone else. Managers and People Managers can open the People list to see their direct reports but cannot add or import people. Content Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users have no access to the People list at all.
