Overview
A person's email address is stored on their profile and can be updated from the Edit account panel. You might change it after someone's name changes, when a typo slipped in during setup, or when an address is retired. The email must be a valid, unique address within your organisation.

How to change a person's email address
- Go to People and open the person's profile.
- Click Actions → Edit account (or the Edit link in the profile card).
- In the Edit account panel, update the Email field.
- Click Save changes.

The address is saved in lower case, and you'll see a confirmation once the account has been updated.
Note: If the Email field is greyed out, the person's account is shared across more than one organisation — see Things to keep in mind below.
Things to keep in mind
- The new address must be unique — if another person in your organisation already uses it, the change is rejected.
- Email addresses are stored in lower case, so capitalisation you type is normalised on save.
- The Email field is disabled when the person belongs to more than one organisation. Their email can't be changed from this screen in that case.
- If the person signs in with your identity provider (SSO) or their profile is synced from an HR system, confirm how they authenticate before changing the address — a synced field may be overwritten on the next sync.
FAQs
Why is the Email field greyed out?
The person's account is shared across more than one organisation, so their email can't be edited from this screen. It's also disabled while the account is saving.
Can I reuse an email that another person already has?
No. Each person needs a unique email address within your organisation. If the address is already in use, the change won't save.
Does the person need to do anything after I change it?
Let them know their address has changed, especially if they sign in with their email. If they authenticate through SSO or an HR-synced account, check that the address matches what that system expects.
Who can do this
Owners and Admins can change any person's email address. Managers and People Managers can edit the accounts of people who report to them. Content Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot change other people's account details.
