Overview

Learning requests let people ask for learning content from the Library rather than self-assigning it directly. It's a useful middle ground when you want your people to be able to discover content but you'd like a Manager or Admin to review requests before the content is assigned.

This is an account-wide setting on the Library tab in Settings, and it sits underneath self-serve learning.

How to enable learning requests

  1. Go to Settings → Library.
  2. Find the Library Content section.
  3. Make sure Enable users to self serve learning content from the private library? is switched on — the learning requests option only appears when private self-serve is enabled.
  4. Switch on Enable learning requests in the library.
  5. A save bar appears at the top of the page — click Save.

Note: If you can't see the learning requests toggle, it's because private self-serve is switched off. Turn on Enable users to self serve learning content from the private library? first — see How to Enable Self-Serve Learning in the Library.

Things to keep in mind

  • The learning requests option is only available when private self-serve is enabled. If you switch private self-serve off, the learning requests toggle disappears.
  • This is an account-level setting that applies to your whole Library, not to an individual piece of content.
  • Nothing is saved until you click Save — if you toggle the switch and leave the page without saving, the change is discarded.

FAQs

Why is the learning requests toggle missing?
It's dependent on private self-serve. The toggle only appears once Enable users to self serve learning content from the private library? is turned on.

Who can do this

Only Owners and Admins can change Library settings. The Settings area — where the Library tab lives — is only available to Owners and Admins, and saving a Library setting requires the same permission. Managers, Content Managers, People Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users cannot.
