Overview
Comment voting lets people upvote or downvote replies within a discussion, so the most helpful contributions can rise to the top. The Upvote / downvote on comments setting is a tenant-wide master switch for this behaviour, and it is on by default. Turning it off hides the vote controls across your discussions.

How to enable or disable comment voting
- Go to Settings → Features.
- Scroll to the Discussions section (Discussions must already be enabled).
- Switch Upvote / downvote on comments on or off.
- Click Save to apply the change.
Things to keep in mind
- Comment voting is on by default when Discussions are enabled.
- The setting is a live master switch: turning it off hides the vote controls on comments across the tenant, and turning it back on shows them again.
- Discussions created while voting was enabled keep their votes even if you later disable voting tenant-wide — the counts are preserved, just not shown while the switch is off.
- This setting controls voting on comments. It is separate from the reaction emoji set, which governs the emoji reaction bar on each comment.
FAQs
Is comment voting on or off to begin with?
On. When you enable Discussions, Upvote / downvote on comments starts switched on.
If I turn voting off, do we lose the votes already cast?
No. Votes cast while voting was enabled are retained; they simply aren't displayed while the master switch is off, and reappear if you re-enable it.
Is this the same as emoji reactions?
No. Voting is the upvote/downvote control on comments. Emoji reactions are a separate feature configured through the Reactions emoji set setting.
Who can do this
Only Owners and Admins can reach Settings → Features and switch comment voting on or off. Other roles cannot open Settings. Once voting is enabled, any user who can view and comment on a discussion can cast votes.
