Overview

Discussions give your organisation a community space where people can start conversations, ask questions and reply to one another. Discussions can stand alone in the Discussions hub or be linked to learning content, Pathways, Events, Roadmap levels and Knowledge articles, so a conversation sits alongside the material it relates to. Discussions are off until an Owner or Admin switches the feature on for your tenant.

How to enable Discussions

  1. Go to Settings → Features.
  2. Scroll to the Discussions section.
  3. Switch on Enable discussions on your account.
  4. Click Save to apply the change.

Once enabled, the rest of the Discussions settings appear beneath the toggle — who can create discussions, the default access type, comment voting, the reaction emoji set and auto-archiving — and the Discussions entry becomes available to your users in the sidebar.

Good to know: The remaining Discussions settings only appear after Enable discussions on your account is switched on. Turn the feature on first, then configure the details.

What happens when you turn Discussions off

When Discussions are deactivated, the sidebar entry, the hub and the discussion detail pages are hidden across the tenant. Existing discussions and comments are retained — nothing is deleted — and they become available again if you re-enable Discussions later.

Things to keep in mind

  • Discussions are off by default; a new tenant sees no Discussions surfaces until you enable the feature.
  • Turning the feature off hides Discussions everywhere but preserves all existing discussions and comments, so it is safe to toggle off temporarily.
  • Enabling Discussions does not, by itself, let everyone start a conversation — use Who can create discussions to control that (see the related article).

FAQs

Will turning Discussions off delete our existing conversations?
No. Deactivating Discussions only hides the sidebar entry, hub and detail pages. All existing discussions and comments are retained and reappear if you re-enable the feature.

Who sees Discussions once it is enabled?
Every non-restricted user can view discussions they have access to. Restricted-role users do not get Discussions. What each person can see also depends on each discussion's access type (Open, Invite-only or Team-only).

Who can do this

Only Owners and Admins can reach Settings → Features and enable or disable Discussions. All other roles — Managers, Content Managers, People Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users — cannot open Settings and so cannot change this.
