Overview
Following a discussion keeps you in the loop — you'll be notified about new activity and the discussion appears under your Following tab on the Discussions hub. Follow the topics you care about so you don't have to keep checking back.

How to follow a discussion
- Open the discussion from the Discussions hub.
- In the header at the top of the discussion, click Follow.
The button changes to Following with a tick, and the discussion now appears under your Following tab.
Good to know: When you comment on a discussion, you start following it automatically — so the Follow button will already show Following once you've joined the conversation.
How to unfollow
- Open the discussion.
- Click Following in the header to turn it off.
Unfollowing removes the discussion from your Following tab and stops its notifications. If you had muted it, unfollowing clears that too.
Things to keep in mind
- Following and commenting are linked: commenting auto-follows, so you may find you're already following discussions you've taken part in.
- Once you're following, a mute control appears next to the button so you can stay subscribed without receiving notifications — see the article on muting a discussion.
- You can't change your follow state on an archived discussion, as it is read-only.
FAQs
Do I have to follow a discussion to comment on it?
No. You can comment without following first — but commenting will start following it for you automatically.
Where do I see everything I'm following?
On the Discussions hub, open the Following tab.
How do I keep following but stop the notifications?
Follow the discussion, then use the mute control that appears beside the Following button. See the article on muting a discussion.
Who can do this
Anyone who can open a discussion can follow it — Owners, Admins, Managers, Content Managers, People Managers, Instructors, Employees and Restricted users. There is no role restriction on following.
