Overview
A table of contents helps learners navigate a longer Knowledge Article by listing its sections and letting them jump straight to the part they need. In SuperPath you don't build the list by hand — you simply toggle it on, and it is generated automatically from the headings in your article. It appears alongside your content under an In this article heading.
Turn on the table of contents
- In the sidebar, go to Knowledge.
- On the Knowledge hub, click Manage Articles, then open the article you want to edit.
- In the editor toolbar, open the insert menu and choose Table of Contents.

- The table of contents appears next to your content under the In this article heading. Your setting is saved automatically.

To hide it again, choose Table of Contents from the insert menu once more to toggle it off.
How the table of contents is built
The table of contents is generated automatically from the headings in your article. Because it is derived from your headings, you shape it by structuring your content — not by editing the list directly:
- Add a heading and it appears as a new entry.
- Remove or rename a heading and the entry updates to match.
- Heading levels are nested, so sub-headings sit underneath their parent heading.
To get a clear, useful table of contents, break your article into sections with meaningful headings.
Tip: If your table of contents looks empty or sparse, add headings to your content. An article made up only of plain paragraphs has nothing for the table of contents to list.
Things to keep in mind
- The table of contents is auto-generated — you toggle it on or off, but you can't manually add, remove or reorder entries. To change it, change your headings.
- The toggle is saved per article, so turning it on for one article doesn't affect others.
- Entries reflect your headings in real time as you edit, so the list stays in sync with your content.
FAQs
Do I have to type out the table of contents myself?
No. It's built automatically from your article's headings. You only turn it on or off.
How do I change what appears in the table of contents?
Edit your headings. Adding, renaming or removing a heading updates the corresponding entry automatically.
Why is my table of contents empty?
It only lists headings. If your article has no headings, there's nothing to display — add some to populate it.
Who can do this
